Adrianna Cockerill was thrilled to get a shot at a buck during the opening week of her hunting season, but what she discovered later gave her quite a shock.

It wasn’t the antlers. It wasn’t a scrawny deer, or some kind of mistake that she made.

Her buck was a doe, baby!

Yep, the South Carolina hunter found quite a surprise after she and her boyfriend loaded the buck on the tailgate of the truck following her afternoon hunt. South Carolina’s season opens in parts of the state in mid-August, and Cockerill was enjoying the hunt despite the summer heat.

According to South Carolina Sportsman, Cockerill lifted a hind leg and discovered that her velvet buck was missing a few things. Turns out it was a doe with antlers, something that isn’t common but isn’t incredibly rare.

Cockerill made the shot with her .243 rifle at about 50 yards. Despite the unusual buck-doe critter, she was happy and definitely has a story to tell for a long time!
