Sonic Soundtrack, and Suckerpunched in So Many Ways

Fred Bear and Ted Nugent

There I was, back in the wild again. Felt right at home where I belong. I had that feeling coming over me again, just like it happened so many times before.

By Ted Nugent

The spirit of the woods is like an old good friend. Makes me feel warm and good inside. I knew his name and it was good to see him again, because in the wind he’s still alive.

Oh Fred Bear, walk with me down those trails again. Take me back, back where I belong. Oh Fred Bear it’s good to see you again and I will join you in the big hunt before too long.

It was kind of dark, another misty dusk. And it came from a tangle down below. I tried to remember everything he taught me so well, I had to decide which way to go!

Was I alone or in a hunter’s dream. The moment of truth is here and now! I felt his touch, I felt his guiding hand, and the buck was mine forever more!

Oh Fred Bear, walk with me, down the trails again. Take me back, back where I belong. Ohg Fred Bear, I glad to have you at my side my friend, and I will join you, in the big hunt before too long.

We’re not alone when we’re in the great outdoors. We’ve got his spirit, we’ve got his soul. He will guide my steps, he will guide my arrows home. The restless spirit forever roams.

And it roams with Fred Bear, when we walk down those trails again. He takes me

back, back where I belong. Oh Fred Bear, I’m glad to have you at my side my friend, and I will join you in the big hunt before too long.

Because in the wind, he’s still alive.

Ted Nugent loves bowhunting and gets into the woods almost every day of the season when he can, whether it’s for big bucks like this or ducks and small game.

Wow! It is not just a song, it is a sonic soundtrack to my life, and according to a few million people around the world, the magical mystical song FRED BEAR is just that for a whole bunch of us. And for that, I cannot thank you all enough for giving me such a powerful and personal connection into so many families lives via a piece of music that means more to me than words could possibly explain.

The flood of very personal and highly emotional communications I have received since the very first few days of a few radio stations sneaking the rough demo onto the airwaves way back in 1989 represents the greatest gift a person could possibly be blessed with.

The power of my love and admiration and respect for Fred suckerpunched so many people in so many ways.

The song helped get people off of drugs and alcohol.

The song brought feuding families back together.

The song inspired heroes of the US Military to fight harder with hopes of getting back home to deerhunt.

The song was played during bombing raids in the war on terror.

The song whacked a bunch of animal rights goofballs upside the skull to admit to the reality of God’s tooth, fang and claw creation and become hunters and NRA members!

The song saved marriages.

The song inspired kids to stand up for what they believe in.

Fred Bear got many hunters interested in archery and still is a revered figure.

The song is played everytime Homer Baily approaches the pitcher’s mound.

The song is played every morning at Kirk Gibson’s deercamp.

The song is the wake-up alarm at thousands of deercamps across America.

The song inspired kids to defy the lie of peer pressure and pursue the outdoor lifestyle.

The song has been played at more funerals than I want to admit.

The song has been played at births, graduations, baptisms, bar mitzvahs, homecomings, a few million opening days, and more.

The song has been in the wills of military heroes to be played at their memorial.

This very special song plays in my head everytime I head out before daylight everyday of my hunts.

I hear the song when I get settled into my treestand everytime.

I hear the song as daylight breaks.

The song gets louder when deer appear.

The song gets even louder in my head as a target deer approaches.

It takes everything in my power to hold back the tears as the words resonate deep in my soul.

Then when my mystical flight of the arrow sails into the vitals of the beast, the guitar solo owns the woods and my entire being!

We all have a Fred Bear. Keep him close at your side. And do everything you possibly can to be someone’s Fred Bear.

Because in the wind, he’s still alive. The beast is dead, long live the beast.

I smell tarsal. Celebrate like you mean it! He will guide our arrows home!
