As with other cities that have experienced growth and whitetail deer adapting to human intrusion, South Charleston’s city council is faced with a deer-human population problem.
So the council is considering urban deer hunting as a possible means of management.
According to the Charleston Daily Mail, the council formed a committee to take a look at it. They are looking at numbers – people and animals – problem areas, other cities that have used urban hunting, and are in the first steps.
Of course, some folks believe the deer are nuisances after they repeatedly come into yards and eat flowers, shrubs or manicured lawns. Others are animal lovers who want the deer prancing around with flowers in their ears and everyone else should leave them alone.
West Virginia is a deer hunting state with a long outdoors history. South Charleston’s council is facing what many other cities have faced.
